2012 Environmental non-compliances at Gildan owned facilities
In 2012, 16 complete and 26 follow-up environmental audits were performed at all textile, hosiery, and sewing facilities, as well as at distribution centers. Additionally, two external environmental audits were performed by a third party as part of the Anvil acquisition due diligence process. Most of the non-compliances were related to chemical management/spill control (45%), waste management (17%), and fuel management/spill control (17%).
There were three major non-compliances, which were all noted at one facility where a small portion of our products are manufactured, and a remediation action plan has been established in order to address these non-compliances.
These non-compliances related to:
- wastewater management and control;
- Gildan’s Environmental Code of Practice; and
- chemical management and control.
Two of these non-compliances have been remediated and the third one will be completely remediated by the end of the second quarter.
