Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certification

GRI Content Index

In April 2004, Gildan became the first manufacturer catering to the North American wholesale imprinted activewear market to obtain the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certification. Gildan annually renews its certification for all products bearing the Gildan® and Anvil® labels manufactured at our facilities in Central America, the Caribbean Basin, and Bangladesh. In addition, many of our other branded products are also Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certified.

The internationally-recognized Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 allows producers and consumers to objectively assess the presence of harmful substances in textiles and apparel products, based on approximately 100 human-ecological and performance-related test parameters. Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 testing also accounts for the ways by which harmful substances can be absorbed into the human body. The annual re-evaluation ensures the reliability of the label.

Textile and apparel products may be certified according to the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 only if all components meet the required criteria. Testing covers raw materials, intermediate materials, and end products. It’s not limited to apparel fabric, but rather also includes sewing thread, buttons, zippers, and other components and accessories used at all stages of production.

Gildan’s Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certification is supported by robust operational quality assurance measures and is consistent with Gildan’s own rigorous Environmental Code of Practice. This certification shows Gildan’s commitment towards protecting the health of its consumers and employees as well as utilizing environmentally responsible manufacturing processes.
